Biography

Gloria Careaga is a feminist lesbian from Guadalajara. In 1978, she moved to Mexico City to pursue a master’s degree in social psychology. In 1979, she joined the Faculty of Psychology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she has since served as a professor and researcher. She is co-founder of UNAM’s Gender Studies Program and of two LGBT NGOs in Mexico. From 2008 to 2014, she was Co-Secretary General of ILGA, and in 2018 she became Director of the HIV and Sexualities Program at the National Human Rights Commission in Mexico. Gloria’s work has earned several recognitions, including the Hermila Galindo Award and the Omecihuatl Medal from Mexico City, the Cenesex Award in Cuba, and the Felipa de Souza Award from OutRight International.
